Spaghetti for a little friend.
bflezblog: queercakes: scorpianparty: oh you fancy, huh? OH…MY…GOSH… Ally and I make Tyr-sized versions of things sometimes.  Like cat pancakes and cat vitamins.  This makes me want to poop my pants, in a good way.

Ignorant Comments 101.
When heteronormative or cisgendernormative comments are made in a completely unrelated context, I have such a hard time figuring out how to voice my concerns and discomfort. Today in class (that’s related to developing literacy in varying discourses, blah blah blah), we were discussing the benefits and disadvantages of the internet for teaching students and structuring knowledge, etc.  In...

Too many babies delivered early for no good... →
This article skims some of the implications of elective early deliveries.  While brief, it touches on some of the risks involved in unnecessary inductions and how prevalent they’re becoming in “modern” maternity care in the United States.

How to ruin a perfectly good birth. →
From a great midwifery blog: www.midwifethinking.com.  A really interesting, logical and scientific reexamination of a previously scrutinized “problem” with birth.

Oh lord.
This is all Ally and I want. Just a tiny, little, snuggly Shiba Inu. Just a little foxy baby. I’ve never been a fan of little, yippie dogs.  But, the one that lives in our neighborhood is the cutest thing that’s ever lived.  So, Ally and I will need one eventually.

And Olivia Wilde.
Just hanging out at the GGs in a prom dress.  But those shoes look like sea urchins, so.  13 wins.

But look!
Natalie Portman’s pregnant! The rose on that dress, nah.  But, A BABY!  A little Padmé.  Probably with a tiny baby light saber.

I cried today in class.
Nearly bawled.  We were discussing if we agreed or disagreed with common beliefs like “Money can never buy happiness” and “Killing is wrong”.  One of them was “Love conquers all”.  I disagreed for a variety of reasons, mainly being a lesbian and in love with my fiancée and unable to legally marry her.  Obviously, love is not conquering the obstacle of gaining...

It's official.
Ally and I have started watching Battlestar Galactica.  And, it’s awesome.  One thing: why the fuck isn’t Starbuck gay? I mean, COME ON.  Can’t the gays have one small victory.  One small victory?!  Why can’t an awesome science fiction show have one, goddamn badass lesbian character? I guess we’re only about 5 episodes in, but it’s looking bleak for Starbuck.

And duh.  Tegan and Sara.  What gay girl doesn’t love them.

Patty Griffin is like a magical being.  She is one of the most amazing musicians ever.  She’s this tiny woman, wielding this giant guitar and she’s got the biggest voice ever.  Her range is incredible and she has a giant stage presence.  She is probably the best.

Rachael Yamagata!  I bought her CD the week before my freshman year of college and randomly found out she was playing at the student union in September.  She was awesome live and she’s pretty awesome overall.

Regina Spektor.  Sometimes I cant’ stand her weird, high-pitched, nasally upper register.  But, usually I think she’s awesome.

Haley Bonar!  Also out of Minnesota, she’s pretty great.  I’ve heard she’s kind of a bitch in real life, but who actually knows those kinds of things.  My brother got me her CD for Christmas a few years ago and I’ve thought she was awesome ever since.  Also it’s fun to pronounce her last name as “boner”.

Speaking of lady gays, the Indigo Girls!  Just classic, awesome, lesbian folk music.  They are the best.

Ellis!  Out of Minneapolis, she’s super awesome and super gay.  I originally saw her at a folk festival in La Crosse with my dad and fell in love with her music.  Ally and I got to see her this summer at PrideFest in Milwaukee.  Her voice is so huge sometimes I can’t believe she is actually singing.  She only wears black too, which is weird.

Ani Difranco!  Ani has been one of the most consistent of my music loves.  I started listening to her as a sophomore in high school and have loved her and her music ever since.  She’s an incredible activist and musician and she’s the bomb, mostly.

Singer/Songwriter Sunday!!!
Due to being laid up on the couch, sucking on honey lemon cough drops, watching Ghost Adventures and feeling generally achey and ill, I’m going to pay tribute to all of my favorite lady singer/songwriters. I was raised on folk music, specifically of the singer/songwriter genre.  My parents took us to folk festivals all over the country since were tiny babes.  We’d listen to our...

doulakelly: I know another video, but this was on a blog I frequently read and I was just in tears. And my thoughts continue to spread to those in Australia, Brazil, and Arizona.   This is one of the most beautiful things.  It makes my heart hurt.  I can’t watch birth videos without crying.

Being gay does NOT make it okay to gay bash.
I’m not talking about playfully making fun of your gay buddy for dressing a certain way.  I’m talking about using derogatory stereotypes or gay-specific language to target a person who is not gay. Like, suggesting that your straight friend loves sucking dick in order to make fun of him.  To me, this is legitimizing gay negative stereotypes.  It’s acknowledging the fact that...

obsessionful: Pregnant Lady Booted From Bar For Totally Inane Reason A woman was kicked out of an Illinois bar last week, where she was celebrating with her girlfriends. Her crime: pregnancy. According to CBS, Michelle Lee was drinking a glass of water at the Coach House in Roselle,… Not only this idea of the “damsel in distress”—women need to be rescued, even from...

Ophiuchus?
I’m one of the lucky few who have their astrological sign changed to AN ENTIRELY NEW SIGN!!! Boom.  Serpent tamer.  I’m going to go get this tattooed on the small of my back. Just kidding.  I’m going to wait until they change my sign to something that more resembles a koala or a manatee.

We could be those parents.
Sometimes I think about and even wish that Ally and I would end up the parents of a child or children with gender identity issues or an intersex condition.  I obviously don’t hope that our kids will have these struggles any more than any other potential parent.  However, since roughly 1 in every 100 babies is born with some type of “ambiguous” genitalia or chromosomal...

Yes! Standing up for your rights in birth! →
I completely applaud this woman for educating herself and making a decision based on the facts and her desires for natural, empowering birth.  It’s amazing the difference knowledge can make.  All women should have access to comprehensive information about their birth options and the risks.  Go girl.
